CARIBOU, Maine — The annual Viking Run was held at Caribou High School Sept. 1, with 142 youngsters taking part.
According to event director Roy Alden, the races were very competitive and outstanding performances were turned in by all who participated.
In fact, three records were either set or tied. Houlton’s Teanne Ewings — the youngest of a family of runners, including her parents, Joe and Angela Ewings and older sister, Teagan — set a mark for first- and second-grade girls with a time of three minutes and 22 seconds. Isaac Staples tied the previous record for first- and second-grade boys at 3:19, while Analise Jandreau is the new record holder for third- and fourth-grade girls at 3:14.
The Viking Run, sponsored by Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan, featured 10 divisions: a quarter-mile race for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten-age girls and boys, a half-mile race for first- and second-grade girls and boys, a half-mile race for third- and fourth-grade girls and boys, a mile race for fifth- and sixth-grade girls and boys and a mile race for seventh- and eighth-grade girls and boys.
