CARIBOU — Officials with Aroostook Savings and Loan recently awarded college scholarships to two local students, Adam Collins of Caribou and Kelsey Buck of Presque Isle.
Collins, a 2014 Caribou High School graduate, will be a freshman at University of Maine at Orono and plans to major in business. He is the son of Gregg and Lori Collins.
Kelsey Buck, a 2012 Presque Isle High School graduate, will be a sophomore at University of Maine at Orono this fall, majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Brent and Felicia Buck.
Each graduate received a $4,000 scholarship through the Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan Association Scholarship Fund Program.
“The Board of Directors started the scholarship fund program in 2000 to help our Association members and their families with pursuing their higher education,” explained John Swanberg, president. “We know how important a college education is today. This is just one way of showing our appreciation to our customers for their loyalty throughout the years, and to thank them for their continued support of our Association.”
To date, the program has provided $91,000 in scholarships since its inception in 2000. With the cost of tuition increasing each year, these funds have helped many Aroostook County families cover educational expenses.
Aroostook Savings and Loan operates offices in Presque Isle and Caribou and currently maintains close to $100 million in assets. Aroostook Savings and Loan is an Equal Housing Lender, Member FDIC, and additional information can be found at www.yourhome bank.com.
