PATTEN – Raymond Murry Sommers passed away at the age of 73 on September 3, 2014. He was born December 8, 1940 in Patten, the son of Spurgeon and Annie Somers. He married Glenda Coolong on Sept. 25, 1965.
Raymond grew up in Patten. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. Following his discharge, he worked in Fairfield, Connecticut for several years and became a Master Electrician. He returned to Patten in 1972 and established a successful business as an electrician in the area until his retirement. Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Garrett.
Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda; his son, David Sommers of Dyer Brook; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Garrett Sommers of Dyer Brook and Oakfield; a son-in-law, Robert Fogg of Winn; his brothers and sisters and their families, Dick Somers of Patten, Sadie and Wayne Heath of Patten, Gene and Donna Somers of Houlton, and Vicki and Steve Richardson of Mt. Chase; and his sisters-in-law Marilyn Somers of Patten and Lois Somers of Oakfield. He is also survived by his wife’s brothers and sisters and their families, Kemp and Debbie Coolong of Mt. Chase, Susan York of Island Falls, Dan and Nancy Coolong of Greenville, Rhode Island, and Marie and Tom Chase of Patten; and many nieces and nephews. Raymond had a special bond with his cousin and wife, Billy and Marilyn Hare of Miramichi, New Brunswick; he enjoyed visiting with them in Miramichi and having them visit at his home in Patten.
Raymond will also be missed by the folks at Richardson’s Hardware and the Downtown Deli, where Raymond enjoyed visiting daily with friends.
Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Fogg, in 2013; his brothers, Robert, Cecil, and Spurgeon Somers. Jr.; his niece, Faith Somers, and his nephews, Barry and Glenn Somers and Ryan Bates.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 2:00 at the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church in Patten with the Reverend Ruth Foss and Steve Richardson officiating.
