City Hall up for sale

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine City Hall is officially for sale, following City Council’s selection Sept. 3, 2014 of a broker for the property.

“Bids were opened Sept. 2, with Jim Dyer (Dyer Real Estate) at 4 percent and Jane Towle (ReMax) at 5 percent (broker fee). If you select one of those, you need to think what the asking price would be for the building, to put a for-sale sign out front. You need to clarify that it’s the building and land for sale, not the city staff,” said City Manager Jim Bennett.
Bennett told councilors this was the logical next step in considering the prospective location of City Hall.
“We’ll see if we get any serious offers on it. Then we can consider other offers received for other locations for City Hall,” Bennett said.
Council Chair Emily Smith agreed that this was the correct way to move forward.
“There’s a lot of consensus on the Council, if there isn’t an action plan for this particular property, it doesn’t make sense analyzing what other options might be available,” said Smith. “If we’re selling because a buyer out there wants to make this tax-paying property, then we’d consider the sale.”
Councilors voted 4-1, with Councilor Dick Engels abstaining, to approve Dyer Real Estate, at 4 percent (broker fee), to handle the marketing of the property.
