PI girls’ soccer team now 3-0

’Cat and Bear boys, Beaver girls suffer first losses

    The Presque Isle girls’ soccer team is now a perfect 3-0 after defeating Hermon at home Saturday. Senior Hannah Graham and junior Taylor Williams tallied two goals each for PI, which next plays at home this Saturday against Mount Desert Island.

    The ’Cat boys suffered their first defeat, falling 1-0 to Hermon.
    The Easton boys and Washburn girls also lost their first contests. The Bears were beaten at home by Washburn Thursday, 4-1, and that same afternoon at the same venue, the Beaver girls were blitzed by Easton, 6-2.
    Easton’s boys bounced back Monday by tripping up Central Aroostook at home, but Washburn could not as they came up short against undefeated Ashland, 5-1, also in a match played Monday.
    Summaries of matches played from Sept. 2-8 follow.
    Easton boys 5, Central Aroostook 2 — At Easton Monday, Drew Sotomayor scored twice to lead the Bears over Central Aroostook for their seventh win of the season. Dane Kingsbury scored on a penalty kick 1:58 into the game to give CAHS an early 1-0 lead. Nick Clark tied it up for Easton with 28:58 to go in the first half, then Sotomayor put Easton (7-1-1) ahead at the 11:22 mark.
    Dustin Pryor capitalized on a defensive mistake to tie the game for the Panthers (3-4) with 25:39 to go in the game. Cody Halvorson scored the game-winner with 19:50 to go and Jason Gurley and Sotomayor added two more goals for the Bears.
    Jake Flewelling saved 10 of 15 shots for Easton. Colby Kingsbury and Zach McClung combined to make11 saves on 23 shots for CAHS.
    Washburn boys 1, Ashland 1 — Caleb Thompson made 15 saves Monday to help the Beavers earn a double-overtime tie against the home team Hornets.
    Noah Caron scored off a Bryce Roix assist for 5-2-1 Washburn.
    Cody Blair netted the goal for 2-1-2 Ashland, with Mark Chasse providing an assist. Tim Tarr made eight saves.
    Easton girls 5, Central Aroostook 1 — Kylee Carter scored three goals to lead the host Bears past Central Aroostook Monday for their fifth victory of the season.
    Easton (5-3-1) scored back-to-back goals at the 36:25 and 34:56 marks in the first half by Carter and Taylor Brown, who was assisted by Nichole Dudley. In the second half, Easton’s Isabelle Morin scored on an assist from Dudley and Carter scored twice, with both goals assisted by Kerrigan Arnett.
    Central Aroostook’s Karli Levesque scored off a pass from her sister Kassidy in the first half for the team’s lone goal. The Panthers fell to 3-4 with the loss.
    Easton goalie Taylor Howe made 16 saves and Central Aroostook goalie April Santiago had 19 saves.
    Ashland 5 girls, Washburn 1 — On Monday in Ashland, Caitlin Paradis had a hat trick and an assist to lead the undefeated Hornets past the Washburn Beavers.
    Also scoring for 5-0 Ashland were Savannah Flint and freshman Amber Chasse with a goal apiece. Laura Sturgeon had one assist.
    For Washburn, Mackenzie Worcester scored the 6-2 Beavers’ lone goal in the second half on a Joan Overman assist.
    Washburn goalie Grace Braley made nine saves on 26 shots. Ashland’s Megan Cote made four saves on five shots.
    Hermon boys 1, Presque Isle  0 — At Presque Isle, Matt Allen scored with four minutes remaining in the first half on an assist from Matt Leach for the game’s only goal Saturday at Hermon prevailed in its season opener.
    Hermon goalie Garrett Kipler had five saves on 10 shots and Andrew Patterson had four saves on six shots for 2-1 Presque Isle.
    Presque Isle girls 4, Hermon 1 — The Wildcats improved to 3-0 by scoring three second-half goals to spoil Hermon’s season-opening game Saturday in Presque Isle.
    The Wildcats opened the scoring late in the first half when Jordi Lagassie’s cross found the foot of Graham.
    Presque Isle struck quickly in the second half by scoring just 1:11 in thanks to a Krystal Kingsbury header that found Williams’ foot at the goal line.
    Hermon cut the lead in half when Alex Allain found the back of the net from 20 yards out, but the Wildcats went on to score two more goals, one each by Graham and Williams, to secure the victory.

    Southern Aroostook boys 3, Central Aroostook 2 — At Dyer Brook Friday, Parker Walker snapped a 2-2 tie with 1:38 left in the second half, scoring his third goal of the game and lifting the Warriors over the Panthers.
    Central Aroostook tied the game with 4:36 remaining in the match on a Dane Kingsbury strike just inside the box. The Panthers’ first goal was scored by Caleb Harris early in the first half.
    Matt Tarr and Jackson Mathers both had assists for the Warriors, who improved to 2-1.
    Zack McClung and Clark Bradbury combined to make nine saves for CA and Austin White made six for SA.
    Fort Kent boys 2, Fort Fairfield 0 — At Fort Fairfield Friday, Josh Caron scored an unassisted goal in the first half and Ryan Chasse added one in the second as Fort Kent triumphed.

    Central Aroostook girls 3, Southern Aroostook 1 — The Panthers’ Kassidy Levesque scored two goals to pace the Panthers to the victory over the Warriors Friday in Dyer Brook.
    Karli Levesque chipped in with one goal for the winners, while Kennedi Smith scored the lone goal for the Warriors (1-2).

    Fort Fairfield girls 1, Fort Kent 1 — Chelsey Pelkey scored a first-half goal to put the Tigers on top in the first half Friday, but the Warriors tied the match in the second and the two teams played to a deadlock in Fort Fairfield.

    Easton girls 6, Washburn 2 — At Easton Thursday, Brown scored the first two of five unanswered first-half goals as the Bears rolled by the Beavers.
    Brown scored six minutes into the game from a Kelsey Frank cross and struck two minutes later, this time converting a Carter cross. Elise Allen, Dudley and Carter then each added a goal before Washburn responded when Worcester scored off an Overman assist.
    Dudley answered for Easton with a goal from a Brown pass with seven minutes left in the half.
    Overman added a second-half goal for Washburn.
    Howe had seven saves against her former team and Braley recorded 13 saves for the Beavers.
    Washburn boys 4, Easton 1 —The Beavers scored three first-half goals Thursday en route to the win over the Bears in Easton.
    Caron opened the scoring for Washburn at the 30:48 mark in the first half. Noah Farley added the second at the 19:54 mark and Alex Pelletier made it 3-0 at 16:45.
    Halvorson scored to cut Washburn’s lead to 3-1 before Pelletier netted the final goal.
    Flewelling of the Bears made 10 saves on 16 shots while Thompson had 11 saves on 21 shots for Washburn.
    Central Aroostook boys 1, Hodgdon 0 —  Last Wednesday at Hodgdon, Pryor scored on an assist from Taylor Campbell 20 minutes into the first half and McClung made 11 saves as Central Aroostook improved to 3-2.
    Tristan Larson had 25 saves for winless Hodgdon.
    Central Aroostook girls 3, Hodgdon 0 — Karli Levesque scored all three goals to pace the Panthers to the road win last Wednesday. Delaney Grass contributed an assist for the winners.
    Ashland girls 10, Van Buren 2 — At Van Buren last Tuesday, Ashland’s Marissa Chasse and Flint each scored three goals to propel the Hornets over the Crusaders.
    Mackenzie Carter contributed two goals, while Morgan Doughty and Laura Sturgeon each notched one. Credited with assists for the Hornets were Alexis Craig with two and Doughty and Flint with one each.
    Amanda Sytulek and Felisha Bouchard tallied a goal each for Van Buren, both coming in the second half.
    Cote had two saves on five shots. Van Buren’s Courtney Parent made 20 saves on 35 shots.
    Ashland boys 3, Van Buren 0 — Blair scored twice to propel the Hornets to victory last Tuesday. Jarrett Beaulieu also scored a goal for the visitors, with Mark Chasse and Wyatt Condon posting assists.
    Easton 3, Fort Fairfield 2 — At Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, Jordan White scored late in the second half to lead Easton to the win.
    Halvorson and Sotomayor also scored for the Bears.
    Johnny Theriault notched both goals for Fort Fairfield. Goalkeeper Dalton Cassidy had 11 saves on 17 shots for the Tigers and Flewelling had nine saves on 14 shots for Easton.
