New health care providers join TAMC
PRESQUE ISLE — Five new health care providers have begun practicing at TAMC.
Randall Himes
Randall Himes, OD, earned his doctorate of optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry in 2006. Himes has joined TAMC’s Eye Care Services, joining Drs. Stephen Martin and Mark Morin.
Himes will work with the doctors to assist in the care of patients with diabetes, glaucoma, dry age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eyes, and refractive changes.
Niraj Karki
Niraj Karki, MD, earned his medical degree from Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical College in 2003. He completed a residency in internal medicine at New York University and Woodhull Medical Center, both in Brooklyn, and served as chief resident during his final year of training. He then went on to complete a fellowship in infectious diseases at Baystate Medical Center and Tufts University in Boston.
Karki has joined TAMC’s Hospitalist Service, working alongside Sergio Lema, MD, Kina Hill-Francis, MD, Rashid Cheema, MD, Evgeny Kirsanov, MD and Josh Bresett, PA-C.
Richard Leidinger
Richard Leidinger, MD, has joined TAMC’s urology team alongside Gary Wikert, MD, and Robert Hunt, PA-C. Leidinger will offer diagnosis and treatment of urologic conditions at the Urology Services office at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital, as well as TAMC’s Caribou Health Center.
Leidinger earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and his residency was completed at the Naval Regional Center in Oakland, Calif. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology.
An experienced surgeon, Leidinger has practiced in Maine for over two decades. He is currently ranked as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard and has a proud history of military service.
Thomas Macharia
Thomas Macharia, MD, is an internal medicine and infectious diseases specialist. He has joined TAMC’s Family Practice and Internal Medicine at North Street Healthcare. His practice will be quite diverse as he will be providing traditional primary care outpatient services, as well as consulting on inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases. Macharia will see patients with HIV/AIDS; Hepatitis B & C; infections in transplant patients; Lyme disease; infections in cancer patients; orthopedic hardware infections including bone implants and prosthetic joint infections; general medical and surgical infections.
Macharia completed his medical degree at the University of Nairobi, Kenya in 1998. He practiced for several years in Kenya before immigrating to the United States to complete his internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. During his time there, Macharia was chosen to serve as chief resident and received multiple teaching awards.
Puja Shrestha
Also joining Family Practice and Internal Medicine is Puja Shrestha, MD, an internal medicine specialist. Shrestha and Macharia join the team of Michael Faloon, MD, Beena Sattar, MD, and Neeti Pokharel, MD.
Shrestha completed her medical degree at Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical College in 2004. She practiced for several years in Nepal before moving to the United States to pursue residency training in internal medicine at New York University and Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn.
