CARIBOU — Stantec employees of Caribou traded their paperwork for pruning sheers on Sept. 19 to trim back brush on the Sincock Street Soucie Sports Complex during the company’s annual Community Day.
Office Manager/Project Engineer Shane McDougall, Administrative Assistant Julie Dicker and Civil Designer Seth Lovely spent the day trimming brush around the Soucie Field fencing and its adjacent Collins Pond Path walking path, and Caribou Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Gary Marquis couldn’t be more appreciative.
Maintaining a chain link fence is extremely important, as Marquis explained, because it costs about $50 per foot to replace it. Trimming back the brush around the fence is tremendously important and a job Marquis knows well, as he’s the one who did it last year.
“To keep the brush and trees out of chain link is huge,” he emphasized. “What they did for me, and rec and the town was absolutely priceless; that was a lot of work for a short amount of time.”
The eight hours of landscape work, in McDougall’s opinion, was also a great way to enjoy the nice fall weather while giving back to the community.
“It’s nice to be able to help out the different organizations,” McDougall said. Last year, the Stantec crew donated their time at the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Limestone.
Community Day is an annual Stantec event where, as McDougall explained, the whole company shuts down for a few hours on a particular day in order to give back to the community.
The extra landscape help also meant great timing, as this is the busiest time of the year for the Soucie Field with both soccer and football season underway.
“A big thank-you to Stantec,” Marquis said.
