PERHAM – Dale Quinten Helstrom, 86, passed away peacefully at a Van Buren healthcare facility on September 16, 2014. Dale was born to Carl Victor and Adina (Holts) Helstrom on September 3, 1928, in Perham, ME, where he was raised and lived all of his life. On November 1, 1946, Dale married Linnea Ostlund, the love of his life, and together they raised two daughters, Lucinda and Kathie.
For most of his adult life, Dale was a potato farmer and thoroughly enjoyed working his land. Dale had a very strong work ethic and there was very little that he could not do. Dale was very family oriented and he always put family first in all that he did. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and took great pleasure in teaching them how to hunt, fish, and even tie flies. Family gatherings at the camp on Square Lake were always a family favorite time full of fun and adventure, which always put a smile on Dale’s face.
In addition to farming, Dale served as the Road Commissioner in Perham for several years. Additionally, he worked at Loring Air Force Base and for Lane Construction for several years.
In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased in 2012 by his wife, Linnea (Ostlund) Helstrom; and his sister, Betty Dickinson.
He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter, Lucinda Couture and her husband, Bob; daughter, Kathie Disy and her husband, Greg; four grandchildren, Kelly Ferreira and her husband, Benji of Arizona, Melanie Pratt and her husband, Carl of Caribou, Jason Disy and his wife, Erin of New Hampshire, and Joshua Disy of Bangor; six great-grandchildren, Brandon Moya, Logan Butler, Parker and Griffin Disy, and Lexie and Brody Disy; sister, Wanda Loveless of Indiana; brother, Casey Helstrom of Florida; brothers-in-law, Ralph Ostlund of New Sweden and Wendell Dickinson of Mass.
Relatives and friends were invited to visit 1-2 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, ME, with a funeral service followed at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James Morgan officiating. Interment was in the New Sweden Cemetery following the service. Donations in Dale’s memory can be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
