NEW SWEDEN – Vera C. Larson, 77, went to Heaven to be with her beloved husband, Eldon, unexpectedly September 15, 2014, at New Sweden. She was born in Presque Isle July 13, 1937, the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Barker) Smith.
She married Eldon Larson November 11, 1954, and they had over 50 happy years together until his death in 2005. Vera was a housekeeper for numerous Caribou families, a correspondent for the Aroostook Republican, a store clerk at Montgomery Ward, and for many years she served as the town clerk of New Sweden. She loved to spend time in her garden, playing bingo, listening to country music and playing the organ. Her happiest moments, though, were spent with her family, whether it was cooking for them, working on the farm, or decorating the house for all seasons. Vera will be remembered as a loving and generous person who was always there for those in need. Mrs. Larson was a member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Maine Town and City Clerks Association.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorella and Jim Caldwell of New Sweden and Melinda and Russell Plourde of Caribou; her special grandchildren, Stephanie Plourde and her significant other, Justin Clayton, and Brandon and Reanna Plourde, all of Caribou; two great granddaughters who brought a special joy into her life, Lauren and Emily Clayton, both of Caribou; her step-grand-children, Nicole Bragdon and fiancé, Derek, Jamie Kasarda and husband, John; her step-great grand-children, Tyler, Jeremy, Kailey, Grace and Gianni; and one step-great-grandson, Jayden, all who brought special joy and meaning to her; her loving sisters, Rita Babin and husband, Frank of West Boxford, MA, Phyllis Ireland and husband, Keith of Caribou, Diana Martin and Nick Easling of Bath, N.Y, and her loving brother, Charles R. Smith and wife, Ruth of Presque Isle; a special friend, Marge Leach of Presque Isle; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
