PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For the only time this season, all the Aroostook County cross country programs gathered for a meet which was held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
In a meet billed as the All-Aroostook Selection Meet, Caribou and Presque Isle runners who placed among the top 10 will be named All-Aroostook by the Aroostook League when those teams are announced later this fall.
The actual league championship meet is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2014 in Fort Kent.
Caribou boys’ runners in the top 10 were Caleb Hunter, Evan Desmond, Lukas Lagasse and Mitchell St. Peter.
Matthew Toussaint of Fort Kent was the first overall finisher on the five-kilometer course with a time of 17:44.12. He was followed by Derek Baker of Washburn (18:24.13), Jason Bartley of Presque Isle (18:40.88) and Skyler Bernstein of Fort Kent (18:46.52).
Hunter was fifth in 18:53.41, Desmond sixth in 18:5.11, Lagasse seventh in 18:59.63 and St. Peter 10th in 19:11.15.
The race included 44 runners, with JV athletes representing the Vikings also competing. Caribou took first in the team results with 40 points, with Fort Kent right behind with 42. Presque Isle, Washburn and Houlton followed in consecutive order.
Viking girls’ runners logging top-10 performances were Robyn Larrabee, Chelsea Haney, Anya O’Meara, Lauren Chapman and Nerissa Larrabee.
Mandy Graham of Presque Isle claimed the race win in 21:57.62, with Houlton’s Rylee Warman the runner-up in 22:02.04.
Robyn Larrabee was third in 22:29.56, Haney fifth in 22:37.25, O’Meara eighth in 23:06.15, Chapman ninth in 23:12.56 and Nerissa Larrabee 10th in 23:18.09.
The rest of the top 10 included Emilia Churchill of Washburn, who was fourth in 22:35.44; Isabelle Jackson of Presque Isle, sixth in 22:49.67; and Mackenzie Worcester of Washburn, seventh in 23:01.35.
Forty-four girls raced and Caribou’s 35 points gave the team top honors. Presque Isle was next with 56, while Washburn had 58 and Houlton 88.
