FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Tigers have done it again. For the sixth consecutive year, the team captured the Aroostook League golf championship.
In a match held Friday on Fort Fairfield’s home course, Aroostook Valley Country Club, the Tigers recorded a score of 375 strokes to beat three other teams.
Central Aroostook of Mars Hill came in second with 384 and as a result, joined FF in qualifying for the Class C state championships at Natanis Country Club in Vassalboro Oct. 11.
Hodgdon was third with 401 and Southern Aroostook fourth with 486.
The top five golfers who scored 90 or below qualified for the individual state championships, which will take place Oct. 18, also at Natanis.
Robbie Watson, the defending Class C individual champion, shot a 75. He was eight strokes better than Hodgdon’s Ben Tuttle, who came in with an 83. Parker Walker of SA had an 86, Ethan Whetmore of Madawaska an 88 and Alex Folsom of the Panthers an 89.
Two girls also qualified by logging scores of 110 or better. They were Hodgdon golfers Lexi Emerson, who had a 98, and Ashley Wallace with a 109.
Rounding out the overall top 10 were Kenny Bell of CA, 91; Carter Bruce of FF, 94; Jon Bernard of FF, 95; Emerson, 98; and Shane Stackpole of CA, 98.
Fort Fairfield’s other scorer was Vince Campbell, who came in at 111. Zach Grass rounded out the list of Central Aroostook golfers and he shot a 106.
In regular season play last Wednesday taking place at Presque Isle Country Club, the visiting Caribou Vikings earned a four-stroke victory over the Wildcats. Caribou shot a 184 and PI a 188.
Brothers Dayne and Donovan Savage both carded 43s for Caribou. Connor Plourde had a 48, Tyler Dombroski a 50 and Jordan Bevins a 51 for the Vikes.
PI senior Jenna Hallett, recently returning from an injury, posted a nine-hole score of 37 to take medalist honors.
Caribou has a match Thursday, along with Presque Isle and John Bapst, at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln.
The PVC championship is slated for Oct. 2, also at the Lincoln course.
