High school soccer teams are more than halfway through the regular season and they are looking to finish the year strong.
Last week game recaps are as follows:
SACS boys overtake Hornets
On Monday in Ashland, the Southern Aroostook boys avenged an earlier season loss to Ashland with a 5-4 win.
Jackson Mathers led the Warriors with a hat trick, while Cameron Landry and Parker Walker each added a goal. Landry also chipped in with an assist. The Warriors improve to 6-2.
For Ashland, Cody Blair also recorded a hat trick and Jarrett Beaulier scored once as the 6-2-2 Hornets tied the game four times.
Tim Tarr and Steven Bellanceau combined for eight saves for Ashland while Austin White rejected 19 shots for Southern Aroostook.
SACS, EG girls lose, tie
The Southern Aroostook girls were routed by host Ashland, 11-0, on Monday behind freshman MacKenzie Carter, who had three goals and two assists.
SACS moved Kennedi Smith into the goal and she turned back 11 of 30 Ashland shots, while her counterpart, Megan Cote, had five saves on five shots faced.
Ashland remains perfect on the year at 10-0, while the SACS girls fall to 3-4-1.
The Lady Warriors battled host East Grand through two overtimes, but no winner was declared, as the game was knotted 1-all.
Smith scored Southern Aroostook’s lone goal to put SACS ahead 1-0 before East Grand senior Allie McEwen scored the equalizer with 23 minutes left in the game.
East Grand goalie Chelsea Winiarski made nine saves and Southern Aroostook’s Marissa Boulier had eight saves. East Grand is 4-3-1.
Last Tuesday in Limestone, the East Grand girls were overpowered 5-1.
Adrianna Phillips scored the lone East Grand goal on a second-half penalty kick, while East Grand keeper Winiarski set back 18 of 27 shots. Limestone/MSSM goalie Jackie Peers had 18 saves on 25 shots.
EG boys fall
Last Tuesday, the East Grand boys soccer team was overtaken 8-1 by host Limestone/MSSM.
Jimmy Brittain scored the lone goal for East Grand on a penalty kick, while goalie Thomas Gilman rejected 20 of 25 shots and Josh Jones added two stops on five shots.
Dylan Nadeau and Sam Kupiec combined for four saves on five shots for Limestone/MSSM.
Houlton girls earn victory; Shiretowners defeated
The Houlton girls soccer team nipped host Fort Kent last Friday night, 2-1, as they held off a late rally.
All the scoring came in the first 20 minutes of the game, with Chelsea Gentle scoring the eventual game-winner off a deflection at the 22:48 minute mark for 5-0-1 Houlton.
Fort Kent (4-3-3) got on the board just a minute and 25 seconds into the game with Erin Chasse scoring on a Cassidy Lovely assist. Houlton tied it when Kolleen Bouchard scored on a Natalie Hill assist.
Houlton goalie Katie Condon earned the win setting back seven of 17 shots, while Fort Kent’s Alexa Pelletier had five saves on 10 shots faced.
The Houlton boys soccer team did not fare as well, as they came up against a strong Fort Kent club last Friday night and were shut out 5-0.
Five different Fort Kent players scored in the game, as the Warriors improved to 8-2.
Houlton keeper A.J. Henderson was kept busy with eight saves on 31 shots, while Fort Kent’s Chris Daigle made two saves on six shots faced.
Hodgdon teams fall prey
to Panthers
The Hodgdon boys soccer team fell to host Central Aroostook, 3-1, last Thursday in Mars Hill.
Alex Boulier scored twice for the Panthers, with one unassisted tally and the other off a Colby Kingsbury assist. Dustin Pryor added a tally off Luke Kearney’s assist, as the Panthers improve to 5-4.
Hodgdon’s only goal was scored by Daden Palmer, as the Hawks slip to 2-8.
The Hodgdon girls soccer team was edged 4-3 by Central Aroostook, as Kassie Levesque netted all of Central Aroostook’s goals, including the game-winner with less than a minute left in overtime.
Rachel Harmon scored twice for Hodgdon, along with Sydney Howell.
Katahdin teams look for win
The Katahdin boys fell to host Bangor Christian, 4-0, as Tyler Welch scored twice and single goals by Luke Chandler and Josh Palmeter. The Patriots are 6-1, while the Cougars drop to 1-8.
The Cougars were stung last Thursday by host Ashland, 6-1. Brady Guiggey scored off a Daniel Moody-Kay assist for Katahdin.
Ashland’s Tim Tarr made six saves on seven shots, while Cody Brownlee turned back 21-of-27 shots for Katahdin.
The Katahdin girls soccer team was blanked 2-0 by host Bangor Christian last Saturday. The Lady Patriots scored both goals in the second half.
Katahdin keeper, Courtney Stevens, had 22 saves against 25 shots, while Bangor Christian goalie Sierra McDonald was a perfect 3-for-3.
The Lady Cougars were blanked 9-0 by host Ashland last Thursday behind Marissa Chasse’s new record for goals in a career with her 58th, 59th and 60th, breaking Brooke LaBelle’s 2012 record of 58. The Hornets are 9-0.
Stevens had a busy day in goal stopping 18 of 31 shots for Katahdin, while Ashland’s Megan Cote made two saves on two shots.
