GINNY JOLES was recently presented with the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award. She received the award for the contributions she’s made during her professional career, as well as her many years of service to the community. Congratulating Joles on her award are, from left: Rachel Rice, who nominated her for the award; UMPI Alumni Board member Ralph McPherson; Joles’ husband, Jerry; Joles, and UMPI President Linda Schott.
Joles was presented with the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award. The honor would normally have been presented to Joles during UMPI’s Homecoming activities, held Sept. 18-21, but Joles had to attend the Rotary District Conference that weekend as she is the Rotary District Governor Nominee for 2016-17.
A 1986 and 1992 graduate of UMPI, Joles received the award for the contributions she’s made during her professional career, as well as her many years of service to her community. She worked at Maine Public Service Co. for 46 years and now serves as TAMC Philanthropy Lead for the EMHS Foundation.
Joles has volunteered on numerous boards and organizations including United Way of Aroostook, Wintergreen Arts Center, Maine Winter Sports Center, NMCC Foundation board, and Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development.
She is the recipient of the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement award. Joles is also a trailblazer — in 1987, she became one of the first two women to be inducted into the Presque Isle Rotary Club, and she later served as the club’s first female president in 1995-96.
