North Woods crash injures two
TOWNSHIP 13, RANGE 14, Maine — A two-vehicle accident in a remote section of the North Maine Woods sent two people to a Canadian hospital early last week.
“On Sept. 30, 2014, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Frank Gray, Jr., 63, of Seal Cove, was operating his 2001 Ford Explorer on the Boulevard Road in T-13, R-14. Wayne Pelletier, 48, of Fort Fairfield, was driving his 2014 Western Star commercial tractor and trailer on the Blanchette Road in T-13, R-14. Gray approached the intersection of the Boulevard and Blanchette roads and it appears he failed to stop at the crossing, causing him to strike the side of Pelletier’s truck,” said Chief Deputy Sheriff Darrell Crandall, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Crandall said Gray’s passenger, 58-year-old Wendell Reed, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
“Pelletier sustained no injuries in the accident. Gray and Reed were transported by a Quebec-based ambulance service to Montmagny Hospital in Quebec, Canada. Both men suffered multiple injuries that at this time do not appear life threatening,” said Crandall.
No additional information was available on the condition of Gray or Reed at presstime. The Explorer sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss. No estimate was given for damage to the truck.
“The Sheriff’s Office thanks several bystanders who helped the injured at the scene and the Maine forest rangers for assisting deputies in getting to the scene of the crash and providing additional logistical support in this remote area,” Crandall said.
The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Sheriff Peter Johnson.
