To the editor:
After reading Norma Milton’s recent letter, “Real Sportsman don’t … “, I felt compelled to respond. I’ve hunted the Maine Woods since the early 1950s, when Maine had a bounty on black bear and I’ve hunted sections of the states of Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida over the years since. I must say that The Maine Woods are unique, in that it is one of the hardest places to hunt, as evident by its low harvest rate of game animals, given the size of the territory.
In the article Norma mimics the statements of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) whose goal it is to eliminate hunting in the United States. In her article you know she has never hunted anything. What is really amazing is the fact that an out-of-state organization, that has nothing to sell or give away, has so many ignorant people jumping on the bandwagon, offering their funds and support. The HSUS has got to be laughing all the way to the bank. They do nothing but prey on the unintelligent among us.
Her article reminds me of the lady that wrote “Hunters should go to the grocery store, where they make it and buy the meat they want” instead of torturing and killing animals. That about says it all.
No one knows better the method of controlling the animals in their state than the State Wildlife Commission. Ignore statements with no facts and vote with your Wildlife Commission.
