GEORGETOWN, ME – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced recently that three medical centers in Maine will receive a total of $734,757 through the Affordable Care Act Patient Centered Medical Home – Facility Improvement (P-FI) Grant Program. The Katahdin Valley Health Center in Patten and Eastport Health Care, Inc. in Eastport will each receive $250,000. Islands Community Medical Services, Inc. in Vinalhaven will receive $234,757.
“Rural healthcare providers face many challenges, not the least of which is maintaining up-to-date facilities that are accessible and can provide high-quality care in remote areas,” said Senator King. “This grant funding will provide critical assistance to the medical centers in Patten, Eastport and Vinalhaven as they work to keep their patients healthy and their communities strong.”
Affordable Care Act Patient Centered Medical Home Facility Improvement Grants bolster construction and renovation projects at medical centers in order to improve quality of care and access to services. The program is administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and its funding is authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
