SHERMAN – Beverly Patterson Rand, 99, passed away October 2, 2014, in Houlton. He was born May 25, 1915, in Golden Ridge, the son of Edward Weston and Rose (Patterson) Rand. He attended the Golden Ridge elementary school, graduated from Sherman High School and University of Maine.
He married Cora Stevens of Augusta and made their homes on Randmere Farms, Sherman, Pleasant Pond, Island Falls and Winterhaven, FL. B.P. had many interests; he raised registered Holsteins, grew crops of potatoes, and raised chickens. He was very interested in his community, Aroostook County and the state of Maine. He was on many boards and committees for the town and the state, including Eastern States, several potato boards, President of the Maine Snowmobile Assoc., trustee of Houlton Regional Hospital, state hospital trustee, member of Lions Club, church deacon, and was a school board member. He was very proud of publishing his life stories, incorporating them into four books between the ages of 90 and 99.
He is survived by his son, Stuart Rand and his wife, Jane and his children, Anna and her husband, Harold Robinson, Becky, Scott and Eddie and his wife, Sharman; twin daughters, Betty Rose Rand and her partner, George Dubois, and her daughter, Amanda Rose; Beth Mary Rand and her children, Leslie Willigar, Lisa Willigar and her partner, John Brennan, Derick and Sarah Rand; great-grandchildren, Travis, Kirby and Erin Robinson, Dorianna and Jon Pratt, Katie Richards, Zachery and Madison McNally, Cora Rand, Jordan, Jenna and Seth Rand, Victoria and Kallista Willigar, JaLisa and Alex McAvoy, Kaleb and Shelby Moore, Kassidi Moore, Blake Patterson Rand, his name sake. He also leaves behind many great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his devoted friend, Alice Briggs, and former daughter-in-law, Dottie Rand. He was predeceased by his wife, Cora.
The family would like to thank Madigan staff and Dr. Sussman for their care.
Friends called 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the Washburn Memorial Church, Sherman, where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Proulx officiating. Interment was in the Golden Ridge Cemetery.
