    NEW LONDON, MO – Phyllis Ruth Lombard Richardson, 87, New London, MO, and formerly of Caribou, ME, died October 2, 2014.
    She married David Richardson June 7, 1947. They were married 56 years until his death August 16, 2003.
    In the course of their marriage, they raised more than 40 foster children. They had three natural children: Dr. Michael D. (Tresa) Richardson (Benjamin and Rachel) of New London, Missouri, Craig M. (Shauna) Richardson, TSgt.,USAF, Ret. and (Seth) of Shelton, WA, Janet L. (Dana) Russo (Christina and Joshua) of Nashua, NH and foster son, Wendell Earl “Bud” Skidgel (Adam and Ryan) of Washburn, ME.
    Phyllis began a teaching career late in life. She graduated from Caribou High School in 1944, attended Colby College, Waterville, ME until 1947. She received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. After serving many years as a foster parent, she began a career as a middle school educator, retiring after 32 years
of service
at the age
of 76.  She is remem-bered fondly
by many colleagues and stu-dents for her service as an educator. She received two awards for meritorious service during her tenure at the Caribou Middle School. As an educator she instilled a love for learning, even among the most resistant of students. She also instilled a value for learning amongst her children, foster children and grand children.
    A service of remembrance will be at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, Caribou, ME, October 18, 2014, 2:00 PM, where she was a lifelong member.
    The family requests that memorials may be made to: Caribou Public Library or the Central Aroostook Animal Shelter in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
