Police searching for driver
Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a Westfield man who reportedly led a state trooper on a chase in southern Maine the evening of Oct. 6, 2014.
“The State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating an Aroostook County man who was last seen in Auburn late last night (Monday). Don Hanson, 33, led troopers on a short chase along the Maine Turnpike,” said Spokesman Steve McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Trooper Jason Wing had pulled Hanson’s car over at mile 63 in the northbound lane.
“While the trooper was interviewing one of the car’s passengers outside the car, the vehicle took off. The Ford Focus was later found near Hotel Road in Auburn, being driven by one of Hanson’s passengers after the chase was discontinued,” said McCausland.
Troopers were told that Hanson had fled into woods along Route 122 earlier.
“Wing later recovered what is believed to be bath salts which were thrown out of the car as it was being chased,” he said.
Hanson, who is from Westfield, is wanted for eluding a police officer and failing to stop.
“Hanson is 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Troopers suspect he may still be in the Lewiston-Auburn area, and likely will be making his way back to Aroostook County,” said McCausland.
Anyone with information on Hanson’s whereabouts should call the Public Safety dispatch center in Gray at 657-3030, or 9-1-1 on a cell phone.
