Guest speaker for Rotarians

On Sept. 29, Will Richard was guest at the Houlton Rotary Club and spoke to members about the International Appalachian Trail, which runs along the eastern United States, including Maine and then into Canada. There are also portions of the trail in Greenland, Europe and Morocco. Richard spoke from a wealth of knowledge, personal experience, and passion for hiking and especially for the northern region of the Appalachian Trail.

Richard is an accomplished photographer, writer, and hiker. He holds a PhD in geography and is a Research Collaborator with the Smithsonian’s Arctic Studies Center and is also a Registered Maine Guide. He is co-author of the book “Maine to Greenland, Exploring the Maritime Far Northeast,” which details the cultural, historical, and geological dimensions of the Northeast coastal corridor. This book includes 200 color photos revealing the beauty of this northern region. Published by Smithsonian Books, it can be purchased for $40. The Cary Library in Houlton also has a copy of this book.
