Trying to figure out Fox

To the editor:
As a person who does not vote strictly along party lines, I am frustrated by my attempts to learn more about Larry Fox, who is opposing Bob Saucier for Maine State Representative for the 147th District. I did locate Fox’s Facebook page which features reasons not to vote for Bob Saucier, but says nothing about his own policy ideas and views on what is best for Northern Maine. It is nearly impossible to figure out what Larry Fox intends to support once in office.

In contrast, Rep. Bob Saucier has always been highly accessible, both before and during his election to the House. He is very clear about his views and voting intentions, even when they differ from how I would prefer him to vote. Although he may not convince me, it is instructive for us to have the discussion and I find him an excellent listener.
As a retired educator, I am alarmed that Fox appears to be aligned with Governor LePage. His apparent support of some of LePage’s most controversial stances on education — such as taking our tax dollars out of our public schools and using them to fund dubious projects like “virtual charter schools.” Public education — at SAD 1, UMPI, and NMTC alike — is vital to our economy and our future in northern Maine. We cannot afford to continue cutting state funds to our schools and we cannot take the risk that Larry Fox will take steps toward privatizing our education system.
