BERNARD, Mérilda Claire Levesque, 92, PRESQUE ISLE, 2014. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

PRESQUE ISLE – After 92 life-giving years, Mérilda Claire Levesque Bernard ended her journey on earth. Mérilda was born in St. André, New Brunswick, on March 23, 1922, daughter of Agnes (St. Amand) and Archille Levesque.
One of 13 siblings, she learned early the love and joys of a big family and the value of hard work. As a young adult, she spent time in Montréal where she pursued a course in hairdressing, shortly thereafter, opening Charm, a salon that she owned and operated for several years in Grand Falls. She married her sweetheart, Albert John Bernard in 1950. Together they raised four daughters. She was loved and appreciated for her graciousness and kindness, which she shared generously with family, friends and strangers as well. Her deep and abiding faith was the cornerstone of her life and legacy.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne (and Brian Blanchard) of Fort Fairfield, Marcia (and Bobby Kennedy) of Buxton, Sue (and Karl Kornchuk) of Caribou, and Jane (and Paul Towle) of Presque Isle; her nine grandchildren: Jon, Brianna, Billi, Adam, Travis, Casey, Krista, Justin and Jacob; 11 great- grandchildren; her sisters, Hectorine (Levesque) LaForge and Yvette (Levesque) LeBlond, both of Grand Falls, NB; and special family friend, Henry Furtek of Presque Isle.
Calling hours were held on Saturday, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood in Presque Isle followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aroostook ‘House of Comfort’, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
