SNOWDOGS WIN DRAWING

Jim Carter, right, WEGP’s high school basketball announcer and host of the Two Minute Warning, presented a check Oct. 7 in the amount of $220 to the Special Olympics Aroostook Snowdogs basketball team, including coach Brian Hamel and players Kyle Cyr and Hillary Griffin.

The team won the money in a drawing by participating in the station’s “Swing for the Fences” promotion. From June through September, WEGP donated $10 to a non-profit organization that serves youth in Aroostook County for every home run hit by the Red Sox. The Snowdogs consist of 28 team members that scrimmage two times a week from early-December until mid-April. They play games against local high schools and UMPI in preparation for participation in the State of Maine Special Olympics tournament held at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham in the spring.
