Autism support group to meet at Cary Nov. 12

The Aroostook Autism Support Group will hold a general informational meeting in the Chan Center at Cary Medical Center on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The meeting will provide an opportunity for parents of children with autism, as well as adolescents or adults with autism to share information and ideas. Maeghan Swanson, coordinator of the support group, said hosting a meeting in Caribou should make attendance more convenient for people in the local communities.

“We know that travel is costly and also takes time,” said Swanson. “We hope that by coming to Caribou we can reach out to people who live in the surrounding area. We have been meeting in Presque Isle for some time and we would like to hear from other people about their ideas, and to learn how we can help with information or other resources.”
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Swanson will provide some background on the history of the support group and then will open up the meeting to those in attendance.
“This is kind of a meet and greet format,” she said. “We really want people to share their thoughts with us and start to build relationships with anyone dealing with autism or who has a personal or professional interest in the issue.”
