HOULTON, Maine — Luke Shorty of Limestone Lodge No. 214 was honored by Grand Master David A. Walker for completing the extensive requirements for the Maine Master Mason Rookie Award.
Shorty has been a Mason a year and in that time has completed five required and six optional requirements. These are focused commitments to engage new members and to get them involved in their respective lodges.
“The Master Mason Rookie program is a great way to help and engage a new Mason into the craft. It exposed me to key aspects of fellowship, charity and community,” Shorty said following receiving the award. “I have found my Masonic experience to be very rewarding to me personally,” he added.
The presentation was made at the First Masonic District meeting last Saturday.
District Deputy Richard A. Wark Jr. of Pioneer Lodge in Ashland was responsible for the meeting and supper, which was hosted by Monument Lodge in Houlton.
This annual meeting of the Grand Master, with the eight Masonic lodges from Houlton to Fort Kent, was attended by some 80 Masons and their guests.
Past Grand Master W. Louis Greenier, II of Caribou attended along with a dozen current Grand Lodge officers from around the State.
