You want my vote? Earn it
To the editor:
In this political season, while I am always interested in the candidates and the races they undertake to represent us, there are three things I think every one of them should know.
1. The more you slam an opponent, the less likely I am to listen to you. Tell me what you stand for, not who you’re against.
2. The constant recorded telephone campaigns do not induce me to listen to your point of view. These recordings disrespect my time and give me no one with whom to have a conversation or share my concerns.
3. The money you spend on campaigning is appalling. Glossy brochures and elaborate television declarations do nothing to impress me, and when we have people in our own city, county and state who struggle to buy food, medicine and heat for the coming winter, the thought of all that money being spent on advertising is simply obscene.
As a voter, I would be most influenced by a candidate espousing his or her own views regardless of party, speaking respectfully of opponents, and undertaking a modest campaign to embody solidarity with all.
