Toast for the Animals

We are getting excited! Our volunteer auxiliary group, Friends of CAHS, has teamed up with the Central Aroostook Humane Society to put on the fifth annual Toast for the Animals –– a Beer & Wine Tasting & Silent Auction fundraiser.

The event will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6-9 p.m. at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle. Tickets are $15, available at the door, and all the proceeds will benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
This has become our shelter’s largest and most popular annual fundraiser. The evening will bring good friends together to sample and enjoy a variety of wine, beer and food options. You can browse and bid on over 80 silent auction items, try your luck with the 50/50 raffle and door prize drawings.
Just a tease to let you know, we have certificates to your favorite eating establishments, balloon rides, rounds of golf, golf bags, certificates, artwork,  jewelry, Adirondack chairs — and that is only a small sample. We would love to have businesses and especially individuals become sponsors, which helps with the cost of putting on this event. For a $100 sponsorship donation, you would receive two tickets to the event (a $30 value), recognition at the event and recognition on the CAHS Facebook page, and the knowledge that you have played an important role in helping to shelter and protect animals in need in Aroostook County. Individuals can also sponsor in memory of a loved one or a beloved pet!
Enjoy a night of socializing, music and good cheer for a great cause!
If you are interested in being a sponsor, call 227-1719 or send an email to csmith.esquire@gmail.com.  Sponsorship donation checks can be made payable to “CAHS” and mailed to 302 Center Rd., Easton, ME 04740.

Halloween tips

It’s Halloween night and the doorbell is continuously ringing. This may be very frightening to your dog or cat or other pets. You need to have a game plan for them as well on Halloween night. Have a room set up for them and keep them behind closed doors during trick-or-treating hours. Have food, water, a toy or two and a litter box if needed all set up for them.
You saw the cutest costume for your pet! Just because you think a certain Halloween costume for your fur person is cute doesn’t mean that they will enjoy wearing it! Try it on them in advance and see how they react. If they don’t like it, don’t force them to wear it.
If you own a cat and let it go outside, remember that this a bad time of year for cats. Vicious people tend to find Halloween an excuse to hurt or kill them. Keep them inside for a few days and nights. While they may whine a bit because they are used to going outside, they’ll be safer in the house where you can keep an eye on them. There’s no need for a pet to run free anyway; keep it home where it’s safe all year long.
We would love to have you stop by and see the beautiful animals that are waiting for a loving family to call their own. Check us out at petfinders.com and Facebook! Remember to be responsible pet owners, spay and neuter your pets!
