Local soccer teams getting ready for playoffs

Official playoff seedings and matchups will be announced later today and many soccer teams from the region are heading for the post-season.
The Caribou girls, at 7-5-1, will be either the seventh-, eighth- or ninth-place team in Eastern Maine Class B. With their game Tuesday against Madawaska, and contests involving Oceanside and Winslow also played after presstime, the Vikings’ final seed is still pending. However, a win last night would almost guarantee at least an eighth seed and a home preliminary playoff game Saturday.

In Class D girls, as of Tuesday morning, Washburn (10-4) was in fourth place and Fort Fairfield (7-5-2) in sixth. The two teams, which met in the mutual regular season finale Monday in Fort Fairfield (with Washburn pulling out a 3-2 victory) will also host prelims this weekend against yet undetermined opponents.
On the boys’ side in Class D, Fort Fairfield was fifth with its 8-5-1 final record and Washburn seventh at 10-3-1. The Beavers bested the Tigers Monday in Fort Fairfield, 3-2, to close out the regular season.
The hottest team in the division from the region could be the Limestone-MSSM Eagles, which was in 10th place. After an 0-6 start, which included a loss to Wisdom by forfeit for an ineligible player, coach Jon Hamilton’s team closed out the year by winning seven of its final eight, including an impressive 2-0 road win Saturday over last year’s EM D runners-up Easton Bears.
Sitting out of the playoffs will be the Limestone-MSSM girls, which ended up 2-12 and in 14th place in the Class D ranks, and the Caribou boys, which took a 1-10-2 record and No. 16 ranking into last night’s home match at Madawaska.
