HOULTON, Maine — With the Nov. 4, 2014 election just two weeks away, one candidate for the Houlton Town Council is having second thoughts.
Brian Donnelly, who served on the town council from 2008-10, announced Monday that he was not actively seeking office and would not participate in a candidate profile for The Houlton Pioneer Times. It was undetermined by presstime if Donnelly would participate in a candidates forum sponsored by WHOU that is scheduled for Wednesday evening.
“I am not going to actively seek office,” Donnelly said. “In fact, if I could, I would pull my name off the ballot.”
According to Town Clerk Cathy O’Leary, the ballot has already been printed and therefore Donnelly’s name will appear on it when voters go to the polls Nov. 4.
Donnelly said his reason for dropping out of the race was because “I just have too much going on.”
The remaining four candidates seeking three available three-year seats on the council are Matthew Carr, Paul Cleary, Brent Dickison and Jane Torres.
However, Donnelly confirmed if he is elected by voters, he would serve his term.
