The Whittier Congregational Church held its annual fall sale On Oct. 25 and it was very well attended. During the sale there was coffee and muffins to enjoy while browsing among all the tables laden with all sorts of articles, including Christmas decorations and jewelry.

Tickets had been sold during the month of October on a hand-made Father Xmas statuette, made by Charlotte Hallett, and the lucky person who had her name called was Kathy Boone, daughter of Dennis Boone, from Crystal.
I have heard that Ava Joy, who recently had surgery in Bangor, is now in Houlton at Agnes Gardner rehab for a few days. Blaine Pray, who also underwent surgery recently in Bangor, is now in rehab in Houlton. Both are doing very well and get-well cards would be appreciated, I am sure.
Beth Savage of Manchester, N.H., has been in town for several days, a guest of her mother, Elinor Savage. I must be sure and tell you what I saw on my front lawn recently as I drove into my door yard. I thought I’d seen something moving about so I carefully walked around the house and there was a partridge looking in the grass for some food or whatever. Guess he must have spied me for he was only there for a minute or two then flew off into the woods nearby.
I have put away my leaf-picking apparatus and my lawn mower for the season. I didn’t get quite all the leaves but the lawns do look better with 75 percent of the leaves on my mulch pile. Now have a nut hatch or two at my feeders and since I started putting out my mixture of peanut butter and lard since the cold weather I now have a couple of woodpeckers, who dearly love the mixture and gobble it up real fast. The pesky gray squirrels are still around and eat everything in sight so I am a busy person, now, keeping the feeders full.
I have seen the doe and her three half-grown fawns down on my back lawn and this morning at about 7 a.m., they were at my neighbors house eating the crabapples from his tree beside his garage. I still cut up old apples and throw them out at night and they are all gone by morning. Think the deer like to come after dark and no one to scare them.
