County community choir plans fall concert

The annual fall concert of the Aroostook River Voices, which now has over 80 members, will be held at the Ashland District School auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m.

The theme of this year’s concert is Music, Flowing Through the Ages. The concert features music from the 1600s on through to the present. The audience can expect to hear many various styles, to include classical jazz, country, rock and roll, folk and gospel.
In keeping with the unique and unusual aspects of the Aroostook River Voices, the audience will be treated to over 20 different soloists. Many selections will involve instrumental accompaniment, including percussion, guitars, banjo, brass instruments, woodwinds and various keyboards. As many as 10 different conductors — many employed as music teachers in the region — will guide the chorus through this concert.
There will also be a special tribute to all veterans and active-duty military personnel. This year the emphasis will be on the veterans of the Vietnam Conflict.
After the concert, the audience is invited to the cafeteria for refreshments. The Aroostook River Voices are sponsored by the Ashland Alumni Association. Donations are accepted.
