• Advice for success — The Caribou National Bank ad reads: “Successful Men — Gould, Rockefeller, Morgan, Vanderbilt, Wanamaker and others won success in their respective spheres because they applied their thoughts and efforts in the right direction, practiced economy, and saved money regularly and persistently.” Why don’t you open a bank account with us at 4 percent interest?
• Noted explorer featured Opera House — Dr. Gabriel Maguire, renouned lecturer, traveler and explorer will be the attraction Nov. 11th at the Opera House. Dr. Maguire has the distinction of being the first white man to go up the Congo after Stanley (Sir Henry Stanley and Dr. David Livingstone) came down.
75 Years Ago-Nov. 9, 1939
• Aroostook Inn opens in Caribou — The official opening of the Aroostook Inn opposite the Caribou Municipal Airport top of N. Main hill will be observed Saturday night. The new inn under the proprietorship of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bresca replaces a similar place of business on Limestone St. which was destroyed by fire last spring.
• Stockholm searches for lost hunter — A numer of men from Westmanland and Stockholm took part in an all-night search for Wylland Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, who became lost while hunting along the Fort Kent road. After traveling for several hours in the darkness, he found himself at the Collins lumber camp near Cluskey Brook, spent the night, and returned home the next morning.
50 Years Ago-Nov. 5, 1964
• Caribou favors LBJ — Aroostook County voters swung dramatically with the nation Tuesday when they elected Democrats to every state and county office being contested with the exception of some successful GOP State Legislature candidates. President Lyndon B. Johnson polled 1,939 votes in Caribou compared to 1,230 for Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater.
• A Rambler a week — One of those Rambler model cars being offered as prizes in the IGA grocery chain’s Royal Guest Bakery contest has come to the Limestone home of local winner Mrs. Norma Perry.
25 Years Ago-Nov. 8, 1989
• Guard adopts wild mustangs — The Maine Army National Guard’s 152nd Field Artillery Battery in Caribou adopted four wild mustangs this past summer to lead their cannon and wagon in local parades and other events after the horses undergo at least two years of training.
• Halloween party draws 1,300 — Over 1,300 boys, girls, moms and dads participated in the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Halloween party sponsored the Christian Youth Ministry and the Caribou VFW Post.
