A one-car sleigh — One of Houlton’s prominent legal fraternity, who is an automobile enthusiast, desirous of taking his pung to the shop Monday morning, tied it behind the auto and drove it there.
New lumber firm — Messrs. A. J. Saunders, A. E. Saunders, H. W. Grinnell and H. Frank Astle have acquired the mill property of the late Matthew Wilson to be incorporated as M. Wilson Lumber Co.

Donovan sisters named class officers — Two Houlton sisters were among the 16 class officers elected by University of Maine students. Alice A. Donovan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donovan of Houlton was elected secretary of the senior class, while her sister, Frances M. Donovan was elected secretary of the freshman class.

Fendler’s book donated to scouts — Donn Fendler’s recently published book, “Lost on a Mountain in Maine,” has been purchased by Miss Harriet Blanch, supervisor of the Aroostook General Hospital, and will be given to the Boy Scout troops of Houlton by her.

Houlton voters in Democratic sweep — The Democrats scored an unprecedented sweep in Aroostook County, Tuesday, as for the first time in political history they captured every County office and scored a clean sweep of State and national seats. With President Johnson the only Democrat on the ballot to gain, the normally heavy margins enjoyed by Republicans in Houlton just were not forthcoming and their plurality here could not offset final results.
Teachers in training — Three University of Maine students and one from Island Falls will be spending the next eight weeks fulfilling their practice teacher training. From Houlton: Elizabeth Gibson at Houlton High, Elizabeth Peltier to Portland High and Karen Milner to Jack Elementary School in Standish; also Layton Sewell of Island Falls to Fifth Street Junior High in Bangor.

Downtown upgrade — Work on Houlton’s downtown revitalization project will be concentrated in Market Square this week. Crew will be working on the steps by the AMHC building, paving sidewalks, laying brick and planting trees.
Sound of Music coming to HHS — The musical, “The Sound of Music, “ that celebrates the famous Trapp Family Singers will be the next attraction at Houlton High School. Jennifer Sargent will portray the part of Maria Rainer, with Jasen Hutchinson featured as Capt. Von Trapp.
