To the editor:
Oh my, do we need it! In this world of turmoil, we face uncertainty every day. Our job, our finances, our health, our marriages, our children and the list goes on.
How can we not be worried about these factors? Worry strangles and divides the mind. The only sure certainty we have is our faith in Jesus Christ. He is our benefactor, our source of security to every problem. Come to me all you who are burdened, and I will give you rest, He said.
God’s Word, the Bible is the law of how we are to live each day. It’s His encouragement to us if we will take the time to read it and to apply it to our lives. It’s the basic ingredient to bring peace to our troubled hearts.
To say we don’t have time for Him, is saying, “You are not important enough to me, Jesus. I prefer to watch the evening news, sports and game shows on TV.”
There is a price to pay for being disobedient. When we step out of the will of God, we suffer the consequences; not always immediately, but God doesn’t let us get away with disobedience, no matter how small or big the wrong was.
In opening up the Scriptures each day, we discipline our attention on Him in seeking His guidance and direction, asking Him to speak to our heart.
God is a Big God. I think we sometimes forget that He is sovereign in control of everything. Yes, everything.
We tell ourselves, I don’t understand everything I read in the Bible. Welcome to His flock. None of us is smart enough to interpret everything that’s written, but we keep reading the Scriptures over and over and then one day a passage we have read many times is revealed. What joy it brings to our hearts.
Jesus’ forgiveness of our sins is the ultimate encouragement for us to be witnesses in His name. To be caring and kind and loving to those in our community, in our churches, even to the unlovely.
Coming together as we do in these Bible studies, unites us closer in our relationship to Jesus Christ. A bond that makes us stronger in our faith with Him and each other.
Each day we find ourselves in the study of His Word, it will enhance our awareness to have a bigger view of who our God really is.
