The No. 10 Houlton Shiretowners lost their bid to go farther into the Class C tournament in Fort Kent last Tuesday during the quarterfinal round.
Houlton staked a 1-0 lead when Connor Grant beat two Fort Kent defenders and goalkeeper Chris Daigle for his tally. But, the lead was short lived, as Ryan Chasse headed a Trevor Carter cross for Fort Kent’s equalizer four minutes later.

Both teams hunkered down in the second half with what was called “multiple chances” to score. However, it was Fort Kent which capitalized on those offensive opportunities and with 10:24 left in the game, the Warriors’ David Roy knocked in a rebounded shot for the game-winner.
Houlton keeper A.J. Henderson had four saves on 23 shots, while Fort Kent’s Daigle turned back three of nine shots faced.
Houlton ends the season at 3-10-2, while Fort Kent advanced to the semifinals against No. 3 Orono with a 12-3 record. The Warriors fell to Orono, 4-3.
The No. 7 East Grand girls finished their soccer season last Wednesday in Howland.
The Lady Vikings came off a double-overtime win over Shead to make it to the quarterfinals.
The first half appeared to be heading toward a scoreless half, but with 3:13 left in the first half, Penobscot Valley’s Logan Tozier sent in a shot from 20 yards out to give the Howlers a 1-0 halftime advantage.
Penobscot Valley would eventually shut out East Grand, 4-0.
Ashley McKenzie, Ryley Buck and Arianna McKinnon provided second-half goals for Penobscot Valley (15-0), which received two assists from McKenzie.
PVHS goalie Sami Ireland made two saves, while East Grand keeper Chelsea Winiarski gathered 10 saves on 21 shots. The East Grand girls end their year at 7-5-1.
The No. 2 Howlers defeated Easton 2-0 in the Class D semifinals and will face the No. 1 Ashland Hornets in the Eastern Maine regional game today.
