The Caribou American Legion No. 15, VFW Post 9389, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary joined together at the Caribou Fire Department for Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The four groups met at 11 a.m. near the city’s War Honor Roll memorial to take part in an honor ceremony for a day of remembrance and to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served in America’s Armed Forces, especially those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while fighting for our nation’s freedom. Members of each group placed a memorial wreath at the Honor Roll memorial in front of the fire station.

American Legion and VFW Chaplain Douglas Michaud, began the ceremony with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Michaud then turned the stage over to American Legion Commander Wayne Little.

“On this day, Veterans Day, America honors the veterans of all wars. We remember how men and women set aside their own needs to serve for their nation’s cause and to defend the freedom that mankind deserves,” said Little. “We believe that our strength on the field of battle and on the supply lines, which nourished our Armed Forces might lay the just of our cause against the forces of evil. We believe our determination made us better warriors because we fought with our minds and our hearts, as well as our bodies. We recognize this service to our country and her cause does not end with the termination of military service. We continue to honor those men and women who gave their lives in this noblest of causes.”

Adjutant of the Caribou American Legion No. 15 Jack Parisi, also spoke at the Veterans Day event, where he began by thanking all those who came out on a cold winter morning to attend the ceremony.

“America makes a lot of things, but what stands out is the strongest, most resilient, honorable and dedicated product, which has affected all of our lives, and that’s the American veteran,” said Parisi. “Today is their day.”
