• Jail conversations recorded — There are no startling developments in the Dudley-Sullivan (murder) case with the exception of finding a dictaphone in the cell of the prisoner, Dr. Dudley. It was connected with a receiver in another cell in the building where a stenographer recorded the conversations which took place between the prisoner and his counsel.
• Automobiles in the County — According to a record of registered automobiles kept at The Times office, total cars include: 456 Fords, 192 Overlands, 175 Buicks, 34 Studebakers and 511 others; for a total of 1,368.

• Anna Barnes, Cary’s first librarian — The death of Miss Anna Barnes occurred on Nov. 8 at the home of her brother, Justice Charles P. Barnes. Miss Barnes was born April 25, 1864, and in her death, Houlton lost one of its most highly intellectual residents. The first librarian of the Cary library, she built up a collection of volumes admired by many.
• Plans for new Houlton Theatre — Plans have been completed for an 850-seat theater, the Houlton Theatre, to be built on the Snell House property, next door to the Temple Theatre. It will be of the latest design, air-cooled, have modern projection, comfortable seats, easy-vision screen and have a modern ladies’ cosmetic room.

• Need for voting machines — This week’s editorial column: “The counting of election ballots continues as one of the Town’s sorespots. It was after 2 o’clock Wednesday morning before the ballots of Tuesday’s elections were counted…Thus Houlton became the last town in Aroostook County to report the results of its election…”
• Hodgdon Tri-Hi-Y officers for 1964 — Tri-Hi-Y had their annual candlelight installation recently. The members elected for offices this coming school year were Patricia Sjoberg as president, Gerry Duff as vice president, Susan Victory as secretary, Theresa Landry as treasurer and Evelyn Boone as chaplain.

• Bradstreet, Parks: CAHS students of the month — Leigh Bradstreet and Aaron Parks have been selected as “Students of the Month” at Central Aroostook Junior/Senior High School. Leigh is the daughter of Steve and Trudy Bradstreet of Bridgewater, and Aaron is the son of Phil and Ruth Parks of Mars Hill.
• Cleale studies at actors’ institute — Lewis Cleale of Houlton has been accepted at the Institute for Theater Training in Jupiter, Fla. The institute is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 by Burt Reynolds for young people with proven talent who have finished their undergraduate education.
