ORIENT — Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Hodgdon man last month and charged him with burning a 4-year-old child with hot water.

Shane Godfrin, 25, of Hodgdon, was indicted on one count of Class C assault, by the Aroos-took County grand jury, on Oct. 9, and an arrest warrant was issued. Deputies arrested Godfrin at a home in Orient, on Oct. 16, after he briefly attempted to flee into the home.
Godfrin was taken to the Aroostook County Jail where he later posted $1,000 cash bail. His initial appearance in Aroostook County Superior Court, in Houlton, was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29. The offense is a Class C felony because the alleged victim is under 6 years old. Under Maine law, this is an aggravating factor, according to Deputy Chief Darrell Crandall.
Back on March 23, the alleged victim was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital with severe burns on their lower legs. Sheriff’s Deputies were notified and opened a criminal investigation into the matter. Medical professionals with expertise in identifying the nature and cause of burns were also involved with the investigation. Once complete, the case was turned over to the District Attorneys’ Office, who presented the case to the grand jury. If convicted, Godfrin faces up to five years in prison.
