HOULTON — A 38-year-old Houlton man was charged with operating a vehicle after license suspension and arrested on three outstanding warrants following a single-vehicle crash on the Burton Road in Linneus.
According to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police, Herbert Winship III was operating a 2004 Pontiac Sports Utility Vehicle when he went off the road at about 1 p.m. Winship’s vehicle struck a mailbox and hit a telephone pole before coming to a rest on the side of the road.
During the investigation by trooper Jill Monahan, it was discovered that the male operator was Winship, who left the scene of the accident. He was subsequently located at a residence in Houlton. Winship was arrested for operating after suspension and on three outstanding arrest warrants and transported to the Aroostook County Jail.
Speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Houlton police assisted Monahan and the investigation is continuing with further charges possible.
