Caribou High School senior midfielder Sarah Doak is the recipient of the “Butch” Shaw Award for Class B girls.
The award is presented annually by the Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials to an Aroostook County soccer player in Class B, C and D who is an outstanding player and also exemplifies the characteristics of respect and sportsmanship.
“She is an unselfish and skilled player capable of playing any position on the field,” said Doak’s coach, Todd Albert. “She has put in many practice hours on her own to improve and as a captain this year, she was a good role model and leader.”
The award is named for Clyde “Butch” Shaw, who was a well-respected varsity basketball and baseball coach at Presque Isle High School and a long-time soccer official. He passed away in October 1985 after a short, courageous battle with leukemia.
Other recipients were: Class B boys, Ben Nickerson, Presque Isle; Class C boys, Christo Naranja, Fort Kent; Class D boys, Cody Blair, Ashland; and Johnnny Theriault, Fort Fairfield; Class C girls, Emily Mooers, Houlton; and Danielle Pelletier, Fort Kent; Class D girls, Marissa Chasse, Ashland; Kylee Carter, Easton; and Mackenzie Worcester, Washburn.
