To the editor:
While shopping at Kmart on Veterans’ Day, some little six-year-old named Emily recognized me as a veteran from my Purple Heart plate and left a thank-you note tucked under my windshield wiper. I didn’t immediately notice it until on my way home.
Upon reading it, she thanked me for fighting for freedom, for her and her family, plus she included a $2 Tim Hortons gift card with a smiley face and a heart on her note.
This made my day and I was touched by her thoughtfulness. She has been taught at an early age the gift of giving.
