HOULTON — Pioneer Broadband, a local telecommunication provider, has announced the commencement of a new Fiber To The Home (FTTH) rollout in the northeast section of Houlton.
Expansion of gigabit service is now taking place in the following areas: Pleasant, River, Charles, Elm, Bird, Pennington, Willard, Burleigh, Summer, Winter, Court (north of Military), Water, Williams, Main and Military (east of Kendall intersection and north to I-95 overpass), Guy, Grant and Cary streets, Randall Ave, Broadway, Foxcroft, Cooks Brook and Garrison roads and Market Square.
Earlier this year Pioneer Broadband commenced a study to determine the feasibility of providing video services in the town of Houlton, but the study is not complete yet.
Triple play services (the delivery of Internet, television, and telephone) are readily available in metropolitan markets.
Fiber connections are already available on Park and Green streets and the McSheffery Road.
Pioneer started building fiber Internet service for home use about two years ago. Existing Pioneer DSL customers can get a free upgrade to FTTH service. There is also a Refer-A-Friend promotion that can earn existing customers a free month of service.
The typical residential fee is $44.95 per month with a $100 installation charge.
Tim McAfee, CEO, said, “Fiber is the future! Fiber optic cabling has many advantages compared to the existing copper infrastructure. Fiber is not susceptible to electrical interference or moisture, thus making it incredibly reliable. We have been installing fiber optic cable in the local area since 2010 and have expert fiber technicians that specialize in construction and emergency restoration.”
