Caribou athletes among all-conference choices

Penobscot Valley Conference chooses elite in soccer, cross country and golf

    The Penobscot Valley Conference has announced its all-conference teams for the fall sports season, and several local athletes are included.
Dayne Savage and Donovan Savage, both of Caribou, and Hunter Flynn of Presque Isle made the Class B boys’ all-conference squad in golf. Representing other league schools were Kyle Lamson of Mount Desert Island, Chris Kauppila, Lucas Shorette and Cole Daniel, all of Old Town; and Garrett Putnam of Hermon.

Katie Pelletier of Caribou and Jenna Hallett of Presque Isle both earned a berth on the girls’ all-conference team and were joined by Victoria Samuels of Washington Academy, Tori Jordan of Mattanawcook Academy, Rica Warren of Searsport, Brittany Jesse and Erika Dube, both of Penobscot Valley; and Emily Turner and Racquel Bozwell, both of Foxcroft Academy.
Pelletier and Hallett were also named to the PVC all-academic golf team.
The Class B girls’ soccer all-conference teams were also announced. Making the first team were the Vikings’ Sarah Doak and Bria Judd and the Wildcats’ Jillian Flynn and Jordi Legassie. Others selected were Claire Peterson, Morgan Buck and Brianna Saulter, all of Hermon; Opal Curless and Paige Mason, both of Mount Desert Island; Rachel Martin of Old Town and Maegan True of John Bapst.
Hannah Graham of Presque Isle made the girls’ second team. She was joined by Anna Smistowski and Hannah Philippon, both of John Bapst; Emily Berry of Ellsworth, Grace Bickford of Foxcroft, Caitlyn King and Lauren Martin, both of Old Town; Molly Carroll of MDI; and Alex Allain, Savannah Allain and Emi Higgins, all of Hermon.
M.J. Ball of Hermon was the choice for coach of the year and Peterson and Curless were selected as co-players of the year.
On the boys’ side, first-team choices included Michael Hunter of Caribou and Michael McLellan and Ben Nickerson, both of Presque Isle. Others on the first team are Bach Nguyen of John Bapst, Jeff Weeks, Jack Weeks and Conor Maguire, all of Ellsworth; Adam Richardson and CJ Moody, both of Old Town; and Nate Church and Antonio Ayala, both of Foxcroft Academy.
Caribou’s Taylor Thibodeau and Presque Isle’s Alex Michaud made the second team along with Logan Butera, Eli Olgon, Julian Cepeda, Matt Biamonte and Justin Diamond, all of Foxcroft; Ryan Bender of MDI, Billy Mixer of Hermon, Adrian Garcia of John Bapst and Anthony Gardner of Ellsworth.
Nickerson was tabbed for player of the year honors. PI coach Joe Greaves and Foxcroft’s Luis Ayala were the co-coaches of the year.
Caribou’s all-academic soccer team members were, for girls, Morgan Outing, Judd, Doak and Emma Jandreau. For Presque Isle, Erin Ackerson, Graham, Krystal Kingsbury and Megan Seward made the list.
Austin Griffeth of the Vikings and Nickerson, Michaud and manager Aubrie Gross, all of the Wildcats, were named all-academic.
In cross country, the girls’ large school second team included Caribou runners Robyn Larrabee, Nerissa Larrabee, Adessa Judd and Madlelind Gudde along with Mandy Graham of Presque Isle. Chelsea Haney and Lauren Chapman, both of the Vikings, received honorable mention.
Caribou’s Chathu Karunasiri and Elijah Verhoff and PI’s Jason Bartley made the boys’ large school first team. Making the second team were Viking runners Mitchell St. Peter, Caleb Hunter, Daniel Randolph and Lukas Lagasse. Evan Desmond of Caribou earned honorable mention.
Caribou runners on the PVC senior all-academic team were Kristopher Michaud, St. Peter and both Robyn and Nerissa Larrabee. For Presque Isle, Austin Albert, Noah Rossignol and Hilary Boucher were all-academic choices.
