Katahdin Valley Health Center donates 60 Thanksgiving baskets to local families

For the past eight years, Katahdin Valley Health Center has held an employee fund-raising event to provide Thanksgiving baskets to local families.
This year KVHC employees donated a total of $752 for the event. This total was generously matched by the health center for a total of $1,504. This amount will allow KVHC to provide 60 Thanksgiving meals to local families in Houlton, Island Falls, Millinocket, Patten, Ashland and surrounding communities.
Each basket has all the items needed to cook a complete Thanksgiving meal, including a 12-14-pound turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, gravy, various side dishes and trimmings, and a freshly baked pie. Community members that have received a Thanksgiving basket are given a voucher that can be redeemed for their basket at Ellis Family Market in Patten, County Yankee Grocer in Houlton, or the Ashland Food Mart.
This year’s fundraiser was once again directed by Megan Day with the assistance of Tina McNinch and Mary Michaud. Megan says of the fundraiser, “The holiday season is the perfect time to reach out to others and offer help in any way you can. I feel very lucky to be a part of the KVHC Team, and be able to participate in initiatives such as this, which allows us to help members of our communities.”
Katahdin Valley Health Center is a federally-qualified health center dedicated to providing quality, low-cost health care to the Katahdin region. KVHC has clinics located in Patten, Houlton, Island Falls, Ashland, and Millinocket.
