MARS HILL NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speakers were leaders and members of local Girl Scout Troop 59: leaders Angela McCrum and Brianne O’Leary and Scouts Keara McCrum and Holly O’Leary. This troop has been together for 10 years. This group earned their Bronze Award a few years ago when they refurbished the locker rooms at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center.
Recently, 10 members earned their Silver Award for completing 50 hours each of community service. They formed “Girl Scouts on Call” and worked with any area non-profit. This included helping out at the nursing home, at benefit suppers, at DVBS, at Junior Church, at area cemeteries, by cleaning up after school and helping at the library.
There will be several that will go on to earn their Gold Award, which will be an individual project that will enhance the community and remain for years to come. This is an impressive group of young ladies.
