UMPI/Community Band to hold Winter Concert

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s UMPI/Community Band will have a winter concert Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium with a snow date of Monday, Dec. 8. Jon Simonoff will be the conductor. A variety of music will be performed by this unique group including classic band literature, settings of choral music for concert band, marches and more contemporary works. Guest Conductor Pamela Kinsey will be conducting Christmas music for this event as well.
The UMPI/Community Band is composed of local and traveling musicians from as young as middle school age to retired music teachers, and is open to all, at any ability level. The event is free and open to the public. FMI, contact Jon Simonoff at jonsimonoff@gmail.com.

Gallery to host reception

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Fine Art Gallery will present “Pictures, Postcards, & Plates: Souvenirs of Presque Isle’s Past,” by the Presque Isle Historical Society, from Friday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. The public is invited to view the exhibition through the show’s run and gather for a gallery reception, being held in conjunction with the Presque Isle First Friday Art Walk, on Dec. 5 from 5-7 p.m., with a Gallery Talk at 5:30 p.m.
The Presque Isle Historical Society will present selections from its collection, featuring maps of Presque Isle from 1870, 1887 and 1894. Postcards show scenes around town. Souvenir dishes feature the St. John’s School, Presque Isle High School and more.
This exhibit is sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council. This event is free. Light refreshments will be served.
