HOWLAND, Maine — The Caribou Vikings competed Saturday at the Penobscot Valley High School Pre-season Wrestling Tournament and came away with two silver medals, captured by captains Axios Gerakaris and Dustin DeMerchant.
Gerakaris wrestled in the 152-pound weight division and DeMerchant at 220 lbs. Bronze medals were won by freshmen Cory Jandreau in the 120-pound class and Izaiah Thayer in 220 lbs.
Fourth-place medals went to sophomore Casey Wilcox (160) and freshman Alton Pelletier (170).
No team scores were compiled for the event.
Other schools participating, in addition to the hosts, were Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Mount Desert Island, Piscataquis Community of Guilford, Calais, Erskine Academy of South China and Washington Academy of East Machias.
