Those wanting a fix of early-season basketball need not venture far this weekend.
Caribou, Presque Isle and Mars Hill will be the sites of preseason tournaments taking place Friday and Saturday.
The Viking girls and boys will host Greely of Cumberland Friday at Caribou High School, with game times slated for 6 and 7:30. The Wildcats entertain Waterville that evening, with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. in Presque Isle.
The following day, the opponents flip flop gyms as Waterville plays Caribou and Greely takes on PI, with game times set for 11 a.m. for the girls’ games and 12:30 p.m. for the boys.
Central Aroostook’s Panther Palace will be headquarters for a boys’ tournament featuring four local squads.
On Friday, Easton and Washburn square off at 5:30 p.m., followed by Ashland taking on the hosts at 7 p.m. The Saturday matchups feature Washburn against Ashland at 5:30 p.m. and CA and Easton meeting at 7 p.m.
A girls’ tourney, hosted by the four-time state champion Washburn Beavers, will be held Monday and Tuesday.
The first contest Monday has a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, with Central Aroostook playing Ashland. Washburn and Fort Kent play at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, the opener features Fort Kent and CA at 5:30 p.m., with Ashland and Washburn competing in the 7 p.m. game.
Admission will be charged at all four venues and concessions will be sold.
