The holiday season means different things to different people. For many, there is a “reason behind the season.” For others, it might be a sad time of memories and loved ones lost or life struggles. We should look around us for those who aren’t sharing our “joyous season” and reach out to them as best we can. For many of our businesses, the season is what carries them financially through the year. So shop local and support your neighbors and friends.
To help you do that, we have worked with the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce to develop a group project of a coupon book. This coupon book has 85-plus coupons from businesses from Mars Hill to Limestone. I am very pleased that 39 Caribou businesses have participated. These coupons could help you save hundreds of dollars throughout 2015. The book will cost $20 and we are working with some local nonprofit groups to sell the book for us so they can raise some money as well.
I will have my hands on these books very soon and they would make great stocking stuffers and swap gifts.
I think it is wonderful and a new chapter of cooperation amongst our area Chambers. We have too little of a population and opportunity not to cooperate and put an end to regionalism. Speaking of which, the Fort Fairfield Chamber has a new director. His name is Tim Goff and I wish him all the best and look forward to working with him.
The season also means it is time for our Caribou Wellness Center and Chamber events on Friday, Dec. 5 from 6 o’clock in the evening until 9 o’clock. There is the always popular gingerbread house decorating and the Chamber has Santa’s Workshop with gingerbread cookie decorating, ornament making, games, and of course, Santa to greet each child with a little goody bag.
Santa will arrive at the Wellness Center at 6:30 because … he will be in the parade from 6 to 6:30! The second annual Snowman Parade will escort Santa to the Wellness Center. The route is from the Caribou Downtown Mall up High Street, left onto Bennett and terminates at the Wellness Center. Come on out to the parade and welcome Santa to Caribou!
Speaking of holidays, I took pictures at the open houses for Plourde and Plourde on Laurette Street and Noyes Flower and Plant Shoppe on Franklin Street. These businesses could not be any different but share one commonality which is great products and great customer service. Many that is two commonalities if I was to follow semantics. But, you get my meaning.
I was very happy and proud to receive a membership check from Haney’s Building Specialties this week. Located at 236 Van Buren Road in Caribou, Haney’s has a great product line that includes kitchen, bath, flooring, appliances, windows, foundations, roofing and more! Plus, Troy Haney gives a lot back to the community and can be found all over the place, all of the time. It is an honor to have his company as a member!
Have a great week, everyone!
