AAI topic at PROBUS
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — April Flagg informed club members about the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative at the November meeting of the PROBUS Club, held Nov. 20, 2014 at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons.
Flagg, a high school teacher in Washburn for 14 years and manager of Hope Recovery Services in Caribou for the last two, is now the executive director of Aroostook Aspirations.
She spoke of the Gauvin County Scholarship Fund, which supports the educational goals of youth in the region and helps mobilize the future prosperity of Aroostook County. The Gauvin scholarships go to graduating seniors at 16 local schools and are for $1,000. They are for students planning to attend one of the four colleges in Aroostook, with priority going to first generation and economically-disadvantaged students.
Flagg said that AAI involves touching base with students on a weekly basis and offering summer internship opportunities.
The next PROBUS meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m., also at Reed Commons. There will be special entertainment and a meal will be served.
